AKY House | Before & After
refresh & upmarket rebrand
Our client sought to upgrade a neglected, eleven room student house into an upmarket property. The house lies on a premier site in the middle of the Row with a small yard and access to daylight on three sides of the lot.
studio wumo's approach to up the house's street cred was to strip away the hard scape, soften the edges and engage the front yard as an extension of the house. This included creating a true portico, adding front balconies and upgrading the exterior with new windows and doors which would also bathe the interior in light.
Entry Foyer
In addition to adding a sense of luxury, we sought to bathe the entry in light and make it more open and welcoming.
Skylight & Stairwell
The existing stair and skylight should have been the light-filled focal point of the house. Instead they were dark, uninviting and inelegant.
Our design makes optimal use of the existing skylight and a new cone-shaped ceiling floods the stairwell and the upper landing in light.
elbow room
An eleven bedroom house may seem big, but with limited communal space, the house was failing to meet the needs of larger social gatherings and chapter meetings. New super big doorway openings turn the small, cellular spaces into an open, interconnected first floor that can be subdivided with huge sliding doors.
